LOGO DESIGN CONTEST RULES AND CALL FOR ENTRIES

The Whittier Cultural Arts Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and sustaining the arts in the City of Whittier. By having this Logo Design competition we are committed to enrich our relationship with the arts and education communities in our own area. The winner of this contest will be awarded a $300 prize.

ELIGIBILITY

The contest is open to any artist, graphic designer or current or former resident of the greater Whittier area or legal resident of the state of California. Entries must be the original work of the artist and may be done in almost any two dimensional media.
Oil, watercolor, acrylic, ink, pencil, or computer artwork is acceptable for the 2010 WCAF Logo Design contest.

ENTERING COMPETITION

The deadline for this competition is midnight JUNE 7th, 2010.
WCAF
PO Box 5007
Whittier, CA 90607-5007

A $10.00 application-processing fee is required with each entry along with the copy of the final logo no larger than 11 in x 14 in. scanned at 300DPI. Entry information forms may be obtained at Whittier City Hall or can be downloaded from our web page at www.whittiercaf.org.

SPECIFICATIONS

Failure to comply with any of these specifications or rules listed below will disqualify an entry.

  1. The logo must use the letters WCAF and communicate what our association stands for in an immediate, effective, and memorable manner. The slogan serves like an advertising phrase and must be poignant, brief, and memorable. It must work well with the logo.
  2. Size of artwork no larger than 11 inches by 14 inches including any border.
  3. Artwork is to be submitted mounted on a board and unframed.
  4. The design may be executed in almost any two-dimensional media. Oil, watercolor, acrylic, ink, pencil, or computer artwork is acceptable for the 2010 WCAF Logo Design contest.
  5. If chalk is used as the media, the artist must spray the completed work with a product to prevent the chalk from drifting or falling off the artwork.
  6. Artist is to submit artwork only; no writing on artwork unless it is an integral part of the artwork, except that the artist may use his or her signature if that is his or her custom. Signature will be covered during judging.

CONTEST RULES

  1. Artist may not be present during judging.
  2. No audience will be present during judging.
  3. Winning artist may submit a maximum of 3 designs that will truly represent our organization.
  4. Artists are not allowed to enter any other winning work that has been entered in any other previous competition; artists are encouraged to submit only new and original entries pertinent to our organization.
  5. Artist may not submit more than one variation of the same logo.
  6. If the entry is declared the winner of the contest, the award goes to the artist who should be the owner of the entry.
  7. JUDGES

The contest committee will select five Judges for the WCAF logo design competition. If possible, the panel will include one employee of the City of Whittier and at least two local artists, as well as three WCAF Board members. This selection, however, will be at the discretion of the committee, which is free to make any necessary substitutions in the make-up of the panel.

    OTHER INFORMATION

The winning artist will be invited to be present at the 2010 HONORS NIGHT at the A.J. VILLALOBOS HALL on Whittier College Campus on July 14, 2010. The winner will also receive a year membership to our organization and his/hers bio will be featured in our newsletter. Original artwork of the winning poster will be returned to the artist.

Participation in the Whittier Cultural Arts Foundation Logo Design contest implies agreement to all terms listed on the poster contest entry/information form and this call for entries.

    TIPS FOR DESIGNING YOUR POSTER

In designing posters, keep in mind that the design will be used for promotional purposes and branding of the Whittier Cultural Arts Foundation organization. In the selection of the winning design, judges will consider the following:

    1. Does the design capture the WCAF excitement and purpose in our community?
    2. Is the artistic execution strong? Is the design graphically pleasing?
    3. Is the design appealing and one which will encourage memberships?
    4. Is the artist’s approach original, fresh and unique?
